Everyone who develops symptoms of COVID-19 – a new, continuous cough; fever or loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste – should isolate straight away and arrange a test. People who live in the same household as a person with symptoms should also isolate straight away.
Self-isolation means you should remain at home and shouldn’t go to work, school, public areas or use public transport. You shouldn’t go out to buy food or other essentials. You must stay at home.
If you live in a property with common areas, you must not access them while isolating. This includes closes, gardens and bin shelters and is vital for the protection of others. Deliveries of food and other essentials should be made to your own door rather than the external close door.
The National Assistance Helpline is available for people staying at home to stop the spread of coronavirus who cannot otherwise get the help they need. If you need it, you can call the National Assistance Helpline on 0800 111 4000, or contact via textphone on 0800 111 4114.
