Partick Housing Association is supporting Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2020!

This year Scottish Apprenticeship Week celebrates the diversity that makes work-based learning good for individuals, employers and the economy. Over the past 4 years, Partick Housing Association has participated in apprenticeship programmes, creating successful careers for their Modern Apprentices. Our apprenticeship schemes has given young people the opportunity to develop new skills and an introduction to the housing sector.

Our Business Administration Modern Apprenticeships are two year courses that combine class based learning with practical experience. In year one, the Modern Apprentices support all areas of our business including Housing, Maintenance, Factoring, Finance, Corporate Services, Development, Community Projects, and IT. During the second year, there is the option to specialise in one or two of these areas. The rotation between the different areas of business provides the Modern Apprentices exposure to various roles and also assists each department with additional support.

Due to the success of our previous apprenticeship schemes, PHA employed two Modern Apprentices in October 2019. They have shared their experience since joining the business:

Lachlan Brady – Modern Apprentice

‘My Modern Apprenticeship has helped me gain a better understanding of how a business operates. During my apprenticeship I have learnt about customer service and how to develop your work skills. I hope this apprenticeship is the first step for me in a rewarding career. The experience gained in my apprenticeship has helped me work away at my business administration course.’

Leah Paterson – Modern Apprentice

‘Becoming a Modern Apprentice at Partick Housing Association has allowed me to develop new skills and also further develop my current skills. During my time here so far, I have been able to learn all about Partick Housing and how every department within PHA makes the organisation run smoothly and successfully. As a Modern Apprentice I am able to learn on the job and also experience every department within the organisation. During the short period I have been here I feel like my confidence has definitely grown and this is due to dealing with members of the local community on a daily basis. Another thing which is great about being a Modern Apprentice is that during the course of my apprenticeship I complete units for my SVQ and at the end of my apprenticeship I will have a qualification to show for this.’

Lachlan and Leah have already gained the confidence and skills they require to successfully succeed in their apprenticeships. They are both recognised as valuable members of the PHA team and have had a positive impact on the business.
