Partick Housing Association is supporting Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2020!

This year Scottish Apprenticeship Week celebrates the diversity that makes work-based learning good for individuals, employers and the economy. Over the past 4 years, Partick Housing Association has participated in apprenticeship programmes, creating successful careers for their Modern Apprentices. Our apprenticeship schemes has given young people the opportunity to develop new skills and an introduction to the housing sector.

Our Business Administration Modern Apprenticeships are two year courses that combine class based learning with practical experience. In year one, the Modern Apprentices support all areas of our business including Housing, Maintenance, Factoring, Finance, Corporate Services, Development, Community Projects, and IT. During the second year, there is the option to specialise in one or two of these areas. The rotation between the different areas of business provides the Modern Apprentices exposure to various roles and also assists each department with additional support.

Due to the success of our previous apprenticeship schemes, PHA employed two Modern Apprentices in October 2019. They have shared their experience since joining the business:

Lachlan Brady – Modern Apprentice

‘My Modern Apprenticeship has helped me gain a better understanding of how a business operates. During my apprenticeship I have learnt about customer service and how to develop your work skills. I hope this apprenticeship is the first step for me in a rewarding career. The experience gained in my apprenticeship has helped me work away at my business administration course.’

Leah Paterson – Modern Apprentice

‘Becoming a Modern Apprentice at Partick Housing Association has allowed me to develop new skills and also further develop my current skills. During my time here so far, I have been able to learn all about Partick Housing and how every department within PHA makes the organisation run smoothly and successfully. As a Modern Apprentice I am able to learn on the job and also experience every department within the organisation. During the short period I have been here I feel like my confidence has definitely grown and this is due to dealing with members of the local community on a daily basis. Another thing which is great about being a Modern Apprentice is that during the course of my apprenticeship I complete units for my SVQ and at the end of my apprenticeship I will have a qualification to show for this.’

Lachlan and Leah have already gained the confidence and skills they require to successfully succeed in their apprenticeships. They are both recognised as valuable members of the PHA team and have had a positive impact on the business.

This year’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week runs from 2 – 6 March 2020. You can find out more about Scottish Apprenticeships at

Margaret Burke

It is with great sadness that the Board and staff of Partick Housing Association announce the death of Board member, Margaret Burke. Margaret passed away peacefully on Tuesday 5 November after a short illness.

A committee and Board member of PHA since 2001, she helped the organisation develop from its roots in protecting historic tenements, to its current status as a developer of innovative new-build schemes.

A tireless volunteer, Margaret also chaired the Partick United Residents Group for more than a decade, was a member of the Partick Community Council, a director (and former chair) of the Friends of Mansfield Park and an Executive Director of the Tenants Information Service.

Margaret became a Partick Housing Association tenant in 1999.  She was so grateful for her new first-floor flat that she quickly threw herself into supporting the Association’s work with the local community. Claiming that she initially got involved simply because she was “nosey”, Margaret quickly became a prominent part of the Association’s governance, character and local presence.

Our sympathies go out to Margaret’s family and friends.

Friday Night Film Club

Partick Housing Association are pleased to support the Friday Night Film Club as part of Annexe Communities Connects2 Project.

The Film Club is normally held on the last Friday of each month at the Annexe on Stewartville Street. The club is not only an opportunity to enjoy a good film and tuck into some popcorn – it brings together local people to tackle social isolation and loneliness.

One participant said, “I’m quite active during the day but usually spend my evenings alone. It’s great to have the Film Club to look forward to each month. A big thank you to the Annexe and PHA”.

For info on what film is showing each month, follow Connects2 on Facebook HERE or look out for their posters around Partick.
